Volunteer Opportunities

Represent Your Class

Title: Class Representative

Description: Serve as a vital link between Alumni and WC by acting as the primary source of communication with your classmates. Promote connectivity by encouraging your class to submit Class Notes, update alumni contact information, and add content to your class web site. Serve on your class Reunion Committee during Reunion years and represent Washington College at local College inaugurations as needed.

Location: Location varies. Most work may be performed virtually from any location. Some attendance at events may be required.

Qualifications: You must be an alumnus/na from WC, possess excellent communication skills, have a passion for WC, and be interested in connecting with alumni.

Time Commitment: This position requires a 5-year term that is renewable upon mutual consent of the Class Representative and the Office of Alumni Relations. Time varies, approximately 3-5 hours per semester during non-Reunion years. During Reunion years, a monthly time commitment of 3-4 hours can be expected.
Rally Your Class to Return to WC

Title: Class Reunion Committee Member

Description: Rally classmates to return for Reunion by connecting with them through email, phone, and the web. Assist Alumni Relations in gathering information such as old college photos and content for your class web site. Encourage classmates to update new contact information. Communicate with your class about events and information concerning Reunion weekend and support Reunion events.

Location: This is a virtual volunteer opportunity that may be performed from any location. Attendance on campus for Reunion weekend is encouraged.

Qualifications: Must be an alumnus/na from WC, have an ability to inspire and engage others, be an excellent team player, and have a commitment to attend Reunion events.

Time Commitment: This is a year-long position. Hours vary. Approximately an hour or less per week.
Connect with Alumni Online

Title: Social Networking Administrator

Description: Manage and promote WC groups and pages on social networking sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Plaxo, etc. Work with Alumni Relations to keep the site current by posting new content, inviting Alumni to join, checking messages and discussion boards, and assisting Alumni users of the site with needs and questions.

Location: This is a virtual volunteer opportunity that may be performed from any location.

Qualifications: Must be an alumnus/na of WC, have a passion for the College and its values, possess excellent writing and communication skills, be customer service-oriented, and have broad knowledge of computers and e-communication.

Time Commitment: Hours are varied, approximately 1 hour per week. The site must be checked at least once every 48 hours for new content posted by users such as RSVPs, discussions, and messages.
Spread the Word about WC

Title: Admissions Recruiter

Description: Assist the Admissions Office in recruiting new WC students by contacting prospective students, conducting student interviews, attending college fairs, and assisting with Open Houses.

Location: Some work may be performed virtually from any location. Attendance at events held in various locations may be required.

Qualifications: Must be a WC alumnus/na, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, have a passion for WC, possess knowledge of the College today, and enjoy working with high school-aged populations.

Time Commitment: This is an ongoing position. Time commitment varies. Approximately 5-10 hours per month.
Coordinate Programs for Recent Alumni

Title: Committee Member, Recent Alumni and Student Involvement Committee

Description: Coordinate events and programs to foster collaboration, communication, and connection between current students and recent alumni.

Location: Location varies. Most work is virtual, but some attendance at College events may be necessary.

Qualifications: Must be a current student or recent alumnus/na of WC (must have graduated within the last 10 years and possess excellent communication skills. Previous program and event planning experience extremely helpful.

Time Commitment: This is a position with a one-year term, renewable indefinitely. Approximately 5 hours of work per month.
Lead an Alumni Chapter

Title: Chapter Chair or Co-Chair

Description: Identify and recruit alumni volunteers in your area who are willing to help organize chapter events. Coordinate purpose and timing of events with the Alumni Relations Office. For communications purposes, serve as a member of the Regional Chapters Committee of the Alumni Board. Encourage fellow alumni to attend chapter events.

Location: Location varies. Some work may be performed virtually from any location. Meetings and events will take place at different locations within your local area.

Qualifications: Must be an alumnus/na of WC, and possess strong organizational , leadership, communication, and people skills. Must have a love of Washington College. Event planning experience helpful.

Time Commitment: Time commitment varies. Approximately 5-10 hours per month.
Plan Chapter Events

Title: Chapter Committee Chair

Description: Chair one of four event committees within your local alumni chapter: Cultural/Educational Committee, Family/Athletic Committee, Career Networking/Social Committee, or Community Service Committee. Plan an event with your committee (one per year in large chapters, or in alternate years for small chapters) in liaison with the Alumni Relations Office and your local chapter.

Location: Location varies. Most work may be performed from home with some meetings and events taking place within your local area.

Qualifications: Must have strong organizational, communication, leadership, and people skills. Creativity and event planning experience helpful.

Time Commitment: Time commitment varies. Approximately 2-3 hours per month.
Plan Reunion Events

Title: Reunion Producer

Description: Help coordinate a Reunion event by planning and meeting with Reunion Committee members. Gather resources for the event and assist with the program during Reunion.

Location: Location varies. Most work may be performed virtually. Attendance at the Reunion event is required.

Qualifications: Must have event planning experience, and possess excellent time management skills. A solid background in the performing arts is helpful.

Time Commitment: Approximately 5 hours per month for planning calls and virtual work. Hours will increase as Reunion nears.
Coordinate the Book Award

Title: Alumni Chapter Book Award Coordinator

Description: Support the WC Book Award Program by mentoring sponsors within an Alumni Chapter’s geographic region. Act as a book award sponsor, provide direction to sponsors and the schools presenting the award, and participate in occasional conference calls with the Book Award Sub-Committee of the Alumni Board. Location: This is a virtual volunteer opportunity that may be performed from any geographic area in which there is an active Alumni Chapter.

Qualifications: Must have a passion for the College and possess excellent organizational and communication skills.

Time Commitment: Time commitment varies, approximately 3 hours per month.
Prepare Students for the Professional World

Title: Career Networking Advisor

Description: Provide career support and direction by assisting with Career Services programs.

Organize an employer site visit or invite a student to "shadow" a day at your workplace. Hold an informational interview with a student in-person or via video chat. Participate in a career fair or networking event at WC. Come to campus to speak about your profession and give advice to students entering that field. Work with your employer to consider WC students for internships at your place of work.

Location: Varied, some opportunities held only on campus, others are virtual, and some may be completed at your place of work.

Qualifications: Must be an alumnus/na of WC, have an interest in working with college-aged populations, and possess excellent people skills.

Time Commitment: Time commitment varies, depending on event and level of involvement.
